Atishi studied in Springdales School, New Delhi, for which she obtained an at high school diploma.
Her intellectual skills evolved only up to the level of a university graduate after studying History from the prestigious St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, and graduating in 2001. Atishi went on to further studies to the Oxford University where she did a master’s in History in 2003 on a Chevening scholarship. By 2005, she was awarded the highly coveted Rhodes Scholarship and another master’s in Educational Research at Magdalen College, Oxford.

Atishi Marlena entered politics for the first time in 2013 with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). AAP was not a well-established older party in politics after the Arvind Kejriwal Anti-Corruption Movement. The motive behind appointing Atishi as Chief Minister was that Kejriwal proposed the name of Atishi for chief ministerial appointment and then withdrew it to seek advice from the Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. Atishi was 43 years old when she was appointed Chief Minister, and thereby became the youngest Chief Minister of Delhi. It was an Indian political record.

Atishi and leaders of the party were called to court in 2019 on a case of defamation filed by BJP’s Rajeev Babbar. The complaint was that 30 lakh names had been deleted from Delhi voter rolls by BJP. That in itself was deemed to be defamatory by the court.
Atishi hit the headlines in 2024 when BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor filed a defamation case against her and Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly filing a case of false poaching. Atishi was back in the news over her official Chief Minister residence when BJP accused Arvind Kejriwal of possessing keys of the bungalow that actually belonged to her.
